A Level 5 Minced and Moist diet is part of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework, designed for individuals who have difficulty chewing or swallowing (dysphagia).

Purpose
Level 5: Minced and Moist Diet
Designed for people who can chew but have difficulty with larger or harder pieces of food. This diet ensures safe swallowing and helps prevent choking or aspiration.
Key Characteristics:
Food Texture
Soft, moist, and easily mashed with a fork or spoon.
Consistency
Pieces are no larger than 4mm (for adults) or 2mm (for children), and food must be minced or finely chopped.
Moisture
Foods must be moist enough to hold together in a cohesive lump but not so runny that they separate or become thin liquids.
No Separations
Foods should not contain any hard, crunchy, or fibrous textures (e.g., nuts, seeds, raw vegetables).
Testing Method
Food should pass the IDDSI fork pressure and spoon tilt tests.
